M12 x 1.5, 60° Taper, Star D20
A locking wheel bolt with M12 × 1.5 thread, 60° conical seat, and a Star D20 internal drive, designed for vehicles and aftermarket wheels where the nut/bolt pocket is too narrow or too deep for a conventional external hex lock bolt. The internal star pattern requires a dedicated matching key for installation and removal, with no external surface for standard tools to grip.
Available in black or silver across a wide range of thread lengths, making this suitable for standard hubs as well as spacer setups.

What Star D20 Drive Means
The "Star" designation refers to a multi-point internal recess machined into the bolt head, similar in concept to a Torx drive but specific to wheel security applications. Unlike an external hex that any socket can engage, the star recess requires a precisely matched key socket. Without the correct key, the smooth cylindrical outer body provides no grip point for removal tools, pliers, or vice grips.
D20 specifies the outer body diameter: 20mm. This determines whether the bolt will fit inside your wheel's bolt pocket. If your wheel has wider pockets, the D23 variant (23mm body) is also available elsewhere in the RYBO range. Selecting the wrong body diameter can result in the bolt sitting proud of the wheel face or failing to seat fully in the recess.
Why Choose Star Drive Over a Standard Lock Bolt?
Standard lock bolts use a dual external hex (e.g. 17/19mm) that, while coded, still has an outer hex profile. On wheels with deep or narrow bolt pockets, the external hex can either foul on the pocket edge or protrude beyond the wheel face. The Star D20 profile has a narrower body (20mm) and a fully recessed drive, making it the better choice for wheels designed around internal-drive fasteners.
Common Applications
- Aftermarket alloy wheels with internal-drive bolt pockets and D20-compatible recesses
- Vehicles using M12 × 1.5 taper-seat bolts, where the wheel pocket design prevents standard hex lock bolt fitment
- Spacer setups requiring extended thread lengths with an internal-drive security solution
